Sheet Music Scanner App Reviews

Garbage

Not a good tool at all... barely picks up the notes on the staff...midi instruments sound bad.

Its ok

Its hard to complain about an app when there isnt much else to compare it to. Its true that it doesnt read music very well, but the fact that it does it all is great. Instead of complaining Im hoping the developers continue to work on this app and make it great. If this worked flawlessly itd be one of the most amazing apps in the App Store.

Great idea, just doesnt work very well

If you dont mind taking dozens of photos to get a bar or two of playable music, its kinda fun. Not sure thats worth $4. I asked for a refund.

Bah

Does not worth the price!! Cant do the flutey notes!

Holy crap, it works!

I’m not sure what the other reviewers are smoking, but this app works great! I’m learning guitar and picked up a book of Christmas Carols. Took a picture of the score and the app played straight through. My kids are learning piano, so I tried it with their piano books. It worked! The limit is that it can only play a page at a time, so if you have a multi-page piece you have to stitch them together after exporting them. No big deal for me, since I’m not good enough to deal with multi-page scores. For me as a rank beginner, the benefit is simple: I can hear and watch the piece being played. Instead of me playing the notes and wondering if the tempo, rhythm, etc are right, I can listen to the app have a baseline to compare against. For $3.99 how can you go wrong?

User Error Means the Haters Gonna Hate

This app works exactly as advertised. It misses very few notes and the ones that it does miss are completely understandable. Unrecognized notes were typically in dark spots on the page or in massive poorly written note clusters. I would recommend this app to anyone who is tired of the BS computer equivalents of that this app does. This is also an amazing tool for learning piano! It very accurately plays the rhythms with the correct notes so it makes what the final product is supposed to sound like very attainable by making the music easy to break down. My only gripe is that there is no vamp option nor is there an option to not play a vocal line if there is one. Nothing to major and thing that Im sure will come out in further updates.

Uhm yeah, no.

I can understand why some people say its decent, but Ive tested about 20 different pieces of flute music on it, and it only got about 3 mostly right. On all the rest, it got maybe every 5-10 notes right, but it tends to mistake dotted notes for the not-dotted forms of the notes, and it tends to mistake things that arent notes as notes.

Works great!

I seriously can not believe how well this works. Wish I had the ability to tweak it slightly but its easy enough just to snap a new pic. Make sure your photos are well lit and still- and youre golden. Love! Been waiting for an app like this!

Misses the simplest things.

I find the app pretty useless. I took almost 20 pictures of a score. But still the app did not understand triplets or even 16th notes. Great idea, poor execution....

As long as its in C...

This app seems to scan and transcribe well, but doesnt recognize key signatures. So unless your sheet music is in C, it is hopelessly off. Maybe in a future update...

Now great. Needs multiple page. But is 100% accurate!!

First, I have to say I was very impressed. I have been trying out apps like NotateMe, which dont even have "use a picture from the photo library" feature yet...and cost a lot more. This app does both saved pics and on the spot pics. That is a major strength. I just wish it could recognize more than one page at once . Another strength is that it does a surprisingly good job recognizing the music… esp since the update! What once used to be 90 % accurate in perfect lighting on the first "pass"....missing things like key signatures and tempo is off IS NOW 100 % accurate on fairly complicated pages! For all of them Ive tried. The update also added more musical voices/instruments. Worth $4 and soon will be a contender against the "big" ones (such as notateme which is fast and accurate but has no open in function)....one this app is a bit faster and ESP when you can add multiple pages!

Great idea!

This app is great! Its not perfect yet, but it is definitely worth the money!

Awesome but needs some improvements

This version is definitely way better than the last one but never the less it could still use a few improvements. My reader still messed up the rhythms in the first line or two but after that its good. In the future I would like to see you guys include support for symbols like repeats, staccato, crescendos, accents, decrescendos, ties, and dynamics. It would also be nice if in the future we could change the tempo in increments of 1 rather than 5 and possibly a feature to auto recognize tempos when they are wrote in. I would also like to see a feature where we can save pieces to the app rather than just pics to our phone. Overall this is a really good app though!

Its okay

The app sometimes wont detect pickups, wont play a half note at the end of a phrase or a half note thats in the beginning of a phrase, and often times mistakes accidental markings within the sheet music as notes. The app also doesnt recognize repeats/ first and second endings or how many measures of rests when there is a number above a single measure. Overall the app is lovely but really should fix those errors because a beginner instrumentalist might mistakingly play a piece incorrectly because of these tiny marginal.

Needs Key Signature

It works well, but I wish that it had the capabilities to read the key signature so that you were truly getting the sound that was meant in the music.

Very Disappointed

This app is really no more than a novelty at this stage of its development. If you want to play simple tunes from sheet music... sure, but without improvement it will never handle grade 4 music with tempo changes, accents and such. All in all, severely limited. Save your money.

It stinks

Save your money cant Evan pick up all the notes in the song. I wish u could refund.

Sheet music scanner closes before scanning

In a number of efforts to scan and play sheet music the program shuts down. It has happened too many times with different files to be an unusual occurrence. The app needs to be refined and address this problem.

Doesn’t recognize triplets or grace notes.

Doesn’t recognize triplets or grace notes.

Doesnt work

This app misses notes and key sigs. A waste of money. Do not buy.
